blockchain in Telecommunication

Leverage Blockchain to Offer Innovative and Cutting-Edge Services and Products

Improve Not Just Your Current Core Capabilities, But Also Capitalize on the Upcoming Trends

The Telecommunications industry has always been the epitome of innovation; from the revolutionary telephone invented by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876 to the introduction of the first mobile phone in 1973. However, in recent times, Over-the-top (OTT) companies have made a significant disruption and have created pressure to rapidly innovate once again. Communications Service Providers (CSPs) will be able to experience the benefit that Blockchain provides for cost reduction through improved efficiency and will be able to provide significant revenue growth through new revenue models.

Telecommunication Blockchain Use Cases

5G

The next wave of technology to rewrite the Telecommunications industry is 5G. In order for CSPs to allow their users to experience 5G in a seamless fashion, access nodes and access mechanisms need to be orchestrated. Blockchain enables access networks like WiMax, WLAN, WiFi, and LTE to interweave where each access point such as WiFi routers, Cell Towers, etc., can act as a node in the network to monitor the devices. Smart Contracts enable that managing of rules, agreements, and device / access node assignments.

Reliable and Secure IoT Connections

IoT sensors are streaming sensitive information about assets which makes the network security a top priority. Blockchain enables high security peer-to-peer networks that are made up of many nodes. Each node can be represented by an IoT device that provides encrypted proofs of transactions and validations for every block within the blockchain network.

    Fraud Prevention

Roaming fraud detection and prevention is an area of focus for CSPs and has the potential to save costs upwards of tens of billions of dollars every year. Fraud happens when a subscriber is not in their Host Public Mobile Network (HPMN) thus making detection time longer and also longer time to respond. Smart Contracts can manage the roaming agreements between the HPMN and the Visited Public Mobile Network (VPMN). If a subscriber where to trigger an event in a visiting network, the data collected enables the terms of the agreement to be executed and calculate the exact billing amount in real-time.
